\n\nShrouds is a fine art photography series. Shrouded figures appear in the ordinary landscapes of Buffalo and beyond — parking lots, fields, industrial corridors, the unremarkable edges of everyday life. Mundane locations disrupted into something fantastic. Familiar spaces made strange.\n\n

\n\nThese are not portraits of ghosts. They are portraits of absence. The shroud is not a costume — it is hyle, the raw material of the world before meaning is assigned to it. Each image lives in the space between presence and disappearance, between the recognizable and the uncanny.\n\n

\n\nThe influences are deliberate: the enigmatic lovers of Magritte, the desolate dreamscapes of Beksiński, the quiet disruptions of Suguru Tanaka. Work that unsettles without explaining itself.\n\n

Instead, he operates an intimate private dining event space seating only ten people, where every menu is tailored to the client's tastes, themes, and needs. An experience built around connection, creativity, and pushing past the expected.\n\n

DISENTANGLEMENT: HANOI TO THE BORDERLANDS

\n\nIn 2019, several weeks were spent traveling through northern Vietnam — from Hanoi north through Lao Cai, Bac Kan, and Ha Giang provinces to the Chinese border. Part photographic expedition, part deliberate reset.\n\n

\n\nThe title comes from a personal truth: travel has always been the most reliable way to disentangle from stagnation — to strip away the familiar and see clearly again. Vietnam offered that in abundance.\n\n

\n\nHanoi is a gorgeous city of old architecture and narrow streets. The countryside beyond it is something else entirely — stunning landscapes, rice harvests in full swing, markets and farms that reward the unhurried traveler. The people encountered along the way were the real discovery. Patient, generous, and quietly extraordinary.\n\n

\n\nCuba sits ninety miles from the United States. In January 2020 — just weeks before COVID-19 closed the world — a week was spent wandering the streets of Havana, the island's 500-year-old capital.\n\n

\n\nThe proximity is deceptive. Crossing that ninety miles feels like crossing centuries. Old American cars navigate colonial architecture. Crumbling grandeur sits alongside vivid, daily life. The contrasts are not ironic — they are just the texture of the place.\n\n

\n\nThese portraits were made in the streets, studios, and shorelines of Havana — artists, dancers, fishermen, and boxers who gave their time and their presence generously. THROUGH TIMEWORN EYES: WAR OF 1812 REENACTORS

\n\nOld Fort Niagara sits at the mouth of the Niagara River, where Lake Ontario begins. It has been a site of conflict since the French and Indian War — through the Revolutionary War, and into the War of 1812. It is also, for a certain kid who grew up down the street, one of the most vivid places in memory.\n\n

\n\nGrowing up in Youngstown, NY after moving from Canada, the fort's large encampment weekends were a fixture of summer. Reenactors in full period uniforms eating at diners, pumping gas, walking the same streets as everyone else — the past made suddenly, strangely present.\n\n

\n\nIn the summer of 2019, in collaboration with the staff of Old Fort Niagara, that strangeness was finally photographed. These editorial portraits of historical reenactors and interpreters in accurate War of 1812 dress are an attempt to honor what those childhood encounters always suggested: that history is not behind us. GLOVES UP, DREAMS UP: BOMB SQUAD BOXING

\n\nThe first introduction to Bomb Squad Boxing came through a cover assignment for Super Lawyers Magazine — a portrait of instructor John Elmore that opened a door worth walking through again and again.\n\n

\n\nBomb Squad is a community boxing club rooted in Buffalo's West Side. Coaches John Elmore and Terry Williams run a program built around more than boxing — fitness, discipline, and positive mentorship for young people who need an outlet, a structure, and someone in their corner.\n\n

\n\nThese portraits are made from the inside. Not as a journalist passing through, but as someone who kept showing up — because the people here are worth the return trip. The gym is loud and focused and alive. The kids are serious about something. STITCH BUFFALO — THE REFUGEE WOMEN'S WORKSHOP

\n\nStitch Buffalo's Refugee Women's Workshop provides refugee women with sewing equipment, supplies, and training — helping them create and sell handcrafted goods, gain financial independence, and preserve cultural heritage within their new Buffalo community. The women in this series come from Burundi, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Eritrea, Ethiopia, Iraq, Myanmar, Somalia, Sudan, Syria, Yemen, and beyond.\n\n

\n\nThese portraits are about strength. Not the abstract kind invoked in press releases, but the specific, everyday kind — the kind it takes to rebuild a life, start a business, and carry a culture across an ocean.\n\n
